Minister of Religion Visa Translation UK: 2026 T2 Guide
The Minister of Religion (T2) visa lets faith leaders from abroad work in a UK role. A licensed religious organisation must sponsor you. Ordination certificates, seminary degrees and letters of recommendation from overseas religious bodies all need certified translation. This guide covers what UKVI accepts. It also shows where applications often go wrong.
Who Qualifies for the T2 Minister of Religion Visa?
This route is for people whose main job is preaching, leading religious ceremonies, leading prayer, or similar duties. It is not for support roles or admin staff — they use the Religious Worker T5 route instead. A licensed religious organisation must sponsor you. That organisation gives you a valid Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).
Minimum Salary Requirement
You must be paid at least £25,600 per year, or £10.10 per hour — whichever is higher. Many religious roles include non-cash pay, such as housing and utilities. This can count toward the threshold. You must document it in full. If the lease or housing agreements are in another language, they need translation too.

| Islam (Imam) | Arabic, Urdu, Turkish | Theological Arabic; Al-Azhar/Madrasah terminology |
| Christianity (Pastor) | Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Polish | Denomination-specific terminology |
| Hinduism (Pandit) | Hindi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Gujarati | Sanskrit theological terms |

Common Pitfall: Informal Ordinations
Some faith traditions ordain without a formal certificate. This is common in some Protestant and independent churches. In these cases, send a letter on official letterhead from the sending organisation instead. It must confirm the ordination date and authority, and it must be translated. Where possible, get the letter notarised in the country of origin.

- Decision — 3 weeks standard (outside UK), 8 weeks in-country
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an English language test?
Yes. Minister of Religion needs CEFR B2 in all four skills. That is higher than the B1 needed for Skilled Worker. If you hold a degree taught in English, UK ENIC can confirm this.
Can my ordination be over 5 years old?
Yes. There's no time limit on how old your ordination is. But the translation must be recent — usually under 2 years old — unless it is attached to an apostille-equivalent.
Does a religious congregation letter need translation?
Yes. Any letter from a non-English-speaking congregation needs a certified translation. This includes references from your home mosque, church, temple or gurdwara.
What if my qualification is traditional (not a modern degree)?
Traditional qualifications such as Dars-e-Nizami or Acharya are accepted. The institution that issued them must document them. A translated certificate plus a letter confirming the programme's equivalence is usually enough.
